Polk County Police arrested a local man and woman after they were spotted parking improperly in front of a house and ultimately found to have methamphetamine, according to reports.
Gordan Lee Graves, 50, of 1042 Morrison Campground Road, Rome, and Jessica Renee Hand, listed as homeless, were both arrested after being stopped late Monday evening and were jailed early Tuesday morning at 12:15 a.m.
Per the report, police spotted the pair in a black Ford Explorer parked in the wrong direction in front of a West Ellawood Avenue residence in Cedartown, where a man was seen in the driver’s side window then suddenly noticing police and fleeing back inside the house.
Officers pulled in front of the SUV to keep it from trying to pull away, and the reporting officer noticed that both occupants were rummaging around the floorboard as if trying to hide something.
When both officers came to each window, the police report stated that Graves behind the driver’s seat was visibly shaking and when asked why she was rummaging around in her bags, Hand said she was simply trying to get her stuff together.
Then when Graves got out of the car, police looked into the floorboard where Graves tried to “sneakily place something” as he got out of the SUV awkwardly, and officers found a bag of methamphetamine. They searched Hand’s bag as well and found methamphetamine, plus syringes including one that was already loaded with suspected meth and a working digital scale.
Hand told police once in custody the meth was Graves’ and he tossed it to her to hide when officers pulled up, and Graves denied any of the meth was his as well.
Both were taken to the Polk County Jail without further incident.
Graves was charged with felonies for possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent, and possession of tools for the commission of a crime, along with a misdemeanor for improper parking. He was being held as of this posting with no bond set.
Hand was also charged with felonies for possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent, and possession of tools for the commission of a crime, along with a misdemeanor for improper parking. He was being held as of this posting with no bond set.
