Nakia Marie Hicks

Rockmart Police took a woman into custody this past Saturday evening after she got physical during an altercation and was maced by another woman trying to protect herself.

Nakia Marie Hicks, 29, of 82 Southern Trace, Rockmart, was jailed and later released on a $2,000 bond on misdemeanor charges of simple assault and criminal trespass during an incident on Saturday, May 29 around 9:10 p.m.

According to the report, police arrived on the scene and found Hicks and another woman screaming at each other, and laundry spread around the front yard of a Martin Luther King Jr. Street residence just after 9 p.m.

Police reported that Hicks told officers she had been maced during the altercation, that video evidence provided by witnesses on the scene showed that she had instigated the entire incident, and the victim had only been defending herself.

Hicks is also reported to have threatened those involved prior to her arrest.

Police asked that all of Hicks’ items be removed from the residence, requested EMS to help clean out the eyes of a baby who had gotten some of the mace in the child’s eyes, and ultimately Hicks was taken into custody.

She was charged and taken to the Polk County Jail without further incident, where she was booked and released this past Sunday on the misdemeanor charges.
