Annual Sweet Treats and Young Authors event also raises funds for student readers

Ferst Readers of Polk County took over the College and Career Academy’s HON Room over the weekend to honor the PSD Young Author winners whose stories took top prizes in recent weeks.

The 2024 Sweet Treats and Young Authors event brought out Ferst Readers members, families and supporters of youth literacy gathered to hand out awards and raise money for a good cause.

Among those honored during this year’s event was Kindergarten student Asa Brown, 1st grader Annaleigh Johnson, 2nd grader Daisy Duckett, 4th grader Logan Tracy, 5th grader Audri-Ella Ramzanali, 6th grader Braelyn Kenzie Thomas, 7th grader Marley English, 8th grader I’Anyah Robinson, Freshman Payton McCord, and Sophomore Madison Duke.

Students honored took top prizes throughout their schools and the district for their stories as part of the annual Georgia Young Authors contest. The event held on April 21 at Cedartown High also provided opportunity for the organization to hold a silent auction for cakes for the participants.

Ferst Readers hosts Sweet Treats and Young Authors as one of their annual fundraising event to ensure that children from birth to age 6 are able to get access to age-appropriate books on a monthly basis.
