Forecasters are warning that today’s temperatures could be dangerous to those who aren’t prepared for going outside – especially during the afternoon hours.
The National Weather Service has placed a heat advisory on Polk and surrounding counties for the day, lasting until 8 p.m. The forecast calls for a temperature of 94 on the day, with a heat index as high as 102.
NWS additionally predicts that wet weather is possible again later this afternoon, up currently to a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Today’s advisory extends the heat wave in Polk County to a third day as temperatures have been rising into the 90s. This comes just over a week after summer began with spring-like temps (a high of 69) and soggy conditions across the area.
