Want to see titans of the screen square off in all their digitally-created glory? Or maybe its time for a modern franchise to be updated with a fresh look for a new generation of gamers?

Those options are both available at The West Cinema this weekend as Godzilla vs. Kong is playing on one screen, and Mortal Kombat opens in theaters in downtown Cedartown tonight, along with Raya and the Last Dragon for younger movie-goers.

The West Cinema will be playing both starting at 7 p.m. for showtimes. They’ll be playing both tonight and Saturday.

Since the start of the pandemic, the theater has struggled to remain open with only limited seating and now newer movies available. In October, owner Michael Tinney brought back some of the horror classics to the screen but then was forced to stop again as COVID-19 case numbers began to spike and attendance didn’t meet expectations.

Now that the pandemic locally is starting to settle down and regulations on seating distances are relaxed for theaters on the state level, Tinney has moved back toward opening back up. He’s hoping for growing crowds to help bring the theater back into profitability and ensure that The West Cinema can continue to provide newer movies and improve over time.

He said he’s ready for customers to return, and the theater is ready now more than ever to host movie-goers who are looking to get out and enjoy an evening on the town.

Buy tickets online ahead of time before showtime to avoid lines, and concessions will be available as well.

Movies returned to the silver screen in Cedartown on April 16 and 17 with Godzilla vs. Kong’s opening weekend and with Raya and the Last Dragon.

Additionally, the theater is now acting as home to Restoration Church Cedartown, who during the April Cedartown City Commission meeting was given permission to utilize the facilities for Wednesday evening and Sunday morning worship services.

The theater also has VIP boxes for parties and special occasions, a staging area perfect for small gatherings, weddings, concerts and business presentations, and much more for those interested.
