Might be a good idea to roll up the umbrella and get the pets indoors, because Polk County is under a severe thunderstorm watch through the rest of the evening.

Showers and thunderstorms are starting to move into the area from North Alabama and Southern Tennessee and a line of storms is already moving through eastern Polk according to National Weather Service radar.

Rainfall isn’t going to last long based on the speed of the current thunderstorms in the area, but a line of storms will likely develop further and move through the area around 6 p.m.

Forecasters in Peachtree City are calling for the Severe Thunderstorm Watch through 9 p.m. Any impacts to Polk should be out of the area by the time the watch expires.

Look for no more than a quarter of an inch in rainfall from this event, but more is on the way. Showers and thunderstorms are still possible overnight, and a 50% chance of rain is in the forecast for Friday, with potential for storms possible just like today. Rain chances on Friday night are down to 20%.

The weekend forecast calls for chances of rain throughout, and into the start of the week with highs remaining the upper 80s to low 90s, and lows down into the 70s and even the mid-60s by next week.

Check back for any additional severe weather updates as they become available.
