The Rockmart Police Department gathered other local agencies to show their support for one of the cornerstone organizations ensuring that those who suffer from sexual assault have an advocate in the community.

Local agencies took part in the gathering in front of the city’s municipal complex on Monday, April 12.

They did so in support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, which is being recognized through the month of April.

More than 730,000 people in the United States were the victim of rape in 2018, per statistics provided by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center.

The Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia serves victims in Polk, Chattooga, Floyd, Bartow and Gordon counties and provides a variety of services to those who have suffered from violence. Visit their website at http://www.sacnwga.org/ for more information.

Here’s more on Monday’s gathering of local agencies from the Rockmart Police Department’s Facebook Page:

Today, Officers from the Rockmart Police Department, Cedartown Police Department, Aragon Police Department, Polk County Police Department and the Polk County Sheriffs Office met in front of Rockmart City Hall to support the Sexual Assault Center of NW GA. April is sexual assault awareness month so today we tied ribbons on our patrol cars to show our support for this valuable resource to our community and for survivors of sexual assault. We support survivors by working together! Rockmart’s Mayor, Sherman Ross, joined us for this special event. We encourage everyone to search for their FB a page and look for future events to see how you can support them as well.
