Mr. Robert Johnson “Bob” Carlton

Mr. Robert Johnson “Bob” Carlton, age 97, of Rockmart, GA, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

Mr. Carlton was born November 1, 1925, son of the late Olga Carney Carlton and the late Thomas Jefferson Carlton. He was a retired machinist with Lockheed Aircraft Company with 36 years of service. Mr. Carlton was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rockmart. He served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Bearss DD-654, a Fletcher Class Destroyer.

Following the war, he and his brother, Mr. Louie C. Carlton began Carlton Brothers Dairy, which today is known as Carlton Farms. Mr. Carlton was a proud American and a true patriot.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Carlton was preceded in death by his precious wife, Jessie Hembree Carlton, whom he married February 14, 1981, his brother, Louie C. Carlton on January 12, 2013, and a nephew, Guy Beatty, on March 4, 2017.

Mr. Carlton is survived by nieces and nephews, Ms. Linda Beatty, Jean and Pat Womack, Danny Kay, Jeffrey and Barbara Carlton, Bobby and Gayla Carlton, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Carlton will be held Saturday afternoon, October 7, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Odom and Rev. Michael Edwards officiating. Mr. Jeffrey Carlton will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the family lot of Rose Hill Cemetery. Honorary graveside military rites will be provided by the Brown-Wright Post 12 of the American Legion Honor Guard.

Mr. Carlton’s family will receive friends at First Baptist Church Saturday from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers, Todd Carlton, Clay Beatty, Jarrod Womack, Jeffrey Carlton, Tom Olson and Randy Turner. Honorary escort will be Chris Green, Danny Kay, Pat Womack, Tina Williams, Jerry McDurmon, Gary Wilson, Barbara Carlton, Shirley Thomas, Tony Brown and Dale Brumbelow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 388, Rockmart, GA, 30153, in memory of Mr. Carlton.
