Crashes into ditch, found with drugs and taken to hospital for broken ankle

A Cedartown man faces multiple charges after a late Sunday chase ended on Fullwood Spring Road in a ditch and cuffs applied to wrists, per the Polk County Police.

Stephen Samuel Blake Corn, 24, of a Cedartown-area address, was jailed just before 1 a.m. on Monday morning, April 8, after he got caught up in a motorcycle chase late Sunday night with Polk County Police.

Corn was spotted by an officer at 10 p.m. on Sunday, April 7 near Pine Bower Church after his motorcycle backfired while going down Pine Bower Road from Akes Station Road. The officer noticed that the Suzuki was driving without a tag light or brake light, and went past at a “high rate of speed.”

The chase began and continued down Johnson Lake Road, Judkin Mill, Wilson Road, Fields Road, Highway 100, Youngs Farm Road, Youngs Station Road, and Fullwood Springs Road and reached speeds past 90 mph at points on the country roads before Corn ultimately tried to turn off of Highway 100 onto Fullwood Springs Road a second time before he crashed into the ditch.

Corn was taken into custody without further incident and searched after he admitted having drugs in his front pocket. An officer found two small baggies of met, and a larger bag of marijuana, as well as some suspected inside of a blue bottle.

Once in custody, police learned his license was suspended.

Corn claimed the small amount of marijuana in the blue bottle was his, but he was only “transporting” the drugs and was threatened to do so.

He was taken to Polk Medical Center where he was ultimately treated for a broken right ankle and once cleared for jail was booked on multiple felony or misdemeanor charges.

Those included felonies for possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute and fleeing or attempting to elude police. Misdemeanor charges included five counts of failure to maintain lane, along with individual charges of obstructing law enforcement officers, driving while license suspended or revoked, reckless driving, speeding in excess of maximum limits, failure to maintain lane, unregistered vehicle, no brake lights or working turn signals, improper left or right turn, brakes required, and failure to use signal.

He remained in custody with bond denied as of this posting.
