A pair of men who tried to steal a bicycle from a Benedict Loop Road address were found by police minutes after trying to flee from the scene, and were discovered with meth upon being searched during their arrest.
According to Polk County Police reports, Michael Dakota Myhand, 25, of 310 Benedict Loop Road, Cedartown, and Brandon Michael Denton, 23, of 33 Maries Lane, Cedartown, were jailed on multiple charges after being taken into custody on March 9 around 10:45 p.m.
Police reported that Myhand and Denton were spotted by a Benedict Loop Road resident trying to steal a bicycle from their carport, and when the owners gave chase to the pair they ultimately dropped the stolen bicycle and fled toward Highway 27.
An officer caught up with and stopped the pair on Highway 27 at Old Mill Road – one matching the description given by the homeowner of one of the suspects wearing camouflage – and questioned them about the burglary.
Myhand confessed and told police he dropped the bicycle when he realized he was being chased, and both were taken into custody.
While being searched, Myhand was found to have suspected methamphetamine on him and it was later field tested and found to be the drug. Police also found a pipe and a bag of suspected meth on the ground that Denton claimed was not his, but had been near where he was standing when officers stopped and began to question the pair. Police found no evidence that it had been on the ground longer than the two were in the spot.
Both were charged with felony possession of methamphetamine. Myhand was additionally charged with first degree burglary and had two bench warrants as well filed for his arrest.
Denton was also charged with party to a crime and possession of drug related objects. He remained in jail on a $7,000 bond on a felony and pair of misdemeanor charges.
Myhand remained in jail on a $15,000 bond for two felony charges, a felony and misdemeanor bench warrant.
