A father and mother were jailed on Monday morning after a woman on West Pine Street found a pair of children wandering unclothed and one covered in feces, and police later located the parents in a home unfit for anyone to be inside according to a Rockmart Police report.

Dalton M Haynes, 25, and Breanna Rose Mari Ardis, 22, were taken to the Polk County Jail on a felony charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor when police tracked them down to their home at 829 Wilson Street, Rockmart, around 11:30 a.m.

According to a report from the Rockmart Police, two of the three children the couple have between them were found on West Pine Street by a woman who was on her front porch when the pair “came running down the road.” Both were nearly or completely undressed, and one was covered in feces.

“She was unaware of who the children were or where they lived,” the report stated, but it didn’t stop the woman from bringing them inside to bathe, feed and dress them in something before police arrived and could call in the Department of Family and Children Services.

Rockmart Police then conducted a door-to-door search for the parents around the area, per the report, and found them at 829 Wilson Street. It was just around the corner from where the children had run.

When officers went inside the home, they found a third child with Haynes and Ardis and a house in complete disarray. Police described the place as “filthy” with “spoiled food everywhere, dirty dishes all over, very little edible food.”

The room the two children who ran off shared had pizza crust all over the floor, empty soda cans, and “feces smeared everywhere.”

Police took photos of the house to keep as evidence, and the Department of Family and Children Services took the trio of children away.

The two remained in jail as of this afternoon on a $3,000 bond each for the felony charge.
