The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was sought out for assistance by the Polk County Sheriffs Office after allegations of potential misconduct were made against a jailer that has since been fired.

A press release posted on the PCSO Facebook page posted today noted that the jailer in question was fired on September 5 for a conduct unbecoming of an officer violation that was specifically related to policy violation.

Since that time, a complaint was made by a specific individual that required the PCSO to open the investigation. Since it is an open investigation into a potential criminal matter, officials at the PCSO could not comment further.

Social media posts previously made about the incident were noted by the PCSO, but have no direct basis on whether they opened an investigation. Officials made it clear that the GBI has been involved since it is a matter involving an officer within the department.
