Nida McGehee Sherrill (February 10, 1943 – October 26, 2021)

That freest of free spirits, Nida McGehee Sherrill, slipped away from us on October 26 after a valiant battle with lung cancer.

After attending Cedartown High School, she graduated as a star student from Wingate Academy in North Carolina before she went on to study chemistry at Clemson University.

She flew three years as a stewardess for Eastern Airlines, during which time she was chosen to represent the airline on the Tonight Show where she was introduced by Johnny Carson after his opening monologue.

She had a very successful career in banking working for Safra bank, where she rose to the level of Vice President before she settled into 20 years of preparing taxes for corporations and individuals.

Nida was an amazing woman, so loving, a world traveler, an avid scuba diver, a fabulous cook, and a devoted mother to Maya.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. John and Mrs. Marie McGehee.

She is survived by her loving daughter Maya Sherrill and son-in-law Joe Zamore of Fort Lauderdale, FL; her sisters Jan (Tony) Ma’luf of Winston-Salem, NC and Celeste (Ernie) Taylor of Athens, GA; nephews: Zachary and Hamilton Taylor of Atlanta, GA and Jason (Joanie) Ma’luf of Winston-Salem, NC; nieces: Nell (Doug) and Allison (Adam) Ma’luf of Cambridge, MA, and devoted best friends: Claire and Danny Nichols.

Nida will be remembered for her loving down to earth spirit, spunky independence, keen insightfulness and love of life. Nida may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.

The Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home is incharge of the arrangements for Ms. Nida Sherrill.
