Know a teacher in your life? Though every week should be a celebration of an educator, this week in particular is National Teacher Appreciation Week.

The weeklong holiday began on Monday, May 3 and continues through Friday, May 7 in the United States, and teachers can take advantage of the thanks they deserve all the time from chains like McDonalds, Taco Bell and Sonic, among others according to a report from USA Today.

Inaugurated in 1984, National Teacher Appreciation Week was started by the National Parent Teacher Association as a time to honor the educators who serve youth on a daily basis – even during their summer holidays – and provide children with skills they need to learn.

Polk School District’s 11 campuses employ hundreds of teachers and is one of the biggest organizations operating locally.

Some ways to show thanks to teachers include donating much-needed supplies to elementary schools, give to programs like Graduate Polk, or… there’s always cash?

Make sure to thank a PSD educator and join the district in their thanks to educators this week.

Happy National Teacher Appreciation Week! During this historical year in education, teachers have gone above & beyond to ensure student learning despite the many obstacles they have faced. We applaud you. We admire you. We appreciate you. This week we celebrate you! #PSDProud
