Mr. William Byron Nix Sr.

Mr. William Byron Nix, Sr., age 74 of Cedartown, passed away Friday, December 25, 2020.

He was born October 13, 1946 in Floyd County, son of the late Woodrow Wilson Nix and the late Mildred Edwards Nix. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Jerry Nix, John Nix and Aaron Nix.

He attended the First Baptist Church of Wedowee and the First Baptist Church of Cedartown.

Mr. Nix began his teaching career in 1969, becoming Principle of Rockmart Junior High School, Rockmart High School, Rock Mills Junior High School in Roanoke, AL, retiring from Randolph County High School in Wedowee, AL.

He was a proud veteran having served his country for 25 years having attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He served in the National Guard from 1970-1977, United States Army Reserves 1977-1995 and served during Desert Storm in 1991.

Mr. Nix is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy Stephens Nix of Cedartown; daughter, Amy Jeanette Nix of Cedartown; son, William Byron (Billy) Nix, Jr. and his wife Maxine of Cape Coral, Florida.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Benefield and Mr. Britt Madden, Jr. officiating. Interment service will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 30, 2020 between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers: William B. Nix, Jr., Matthew Robinson, Lee Jolly, Toby Stitcher, Keith Cole and Darrell Stephens, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers: Charles Blaylock, Charles Harris, Michael Hall, Dan McBrayer, Kenneth Jolly and Joey Arnold.
