A trio from the Memphis area were jailed and later released on drug charges after a traffic stop yielded just over an ounce of marijuana as they were passing through Polk County.
Kimberly Boney Robinson, 32, Arnetta Nashay Vaughn, 41 and Tyrone Olden, 51, were all taken into custody without incident after a Polk County Police officer pulled the three over on Highway 278 near Coots Lake Road just outside of Rockmart for speeding well over the 65 mph limit at 88 mph around 2 p.m. on January 31.
When the arresting officer came up to the black Chevrolet Malibu with Mississippi plates, he believe he smelled marijuana while walking up to get information from the driver during after they were stopped for speeding.
He came up to the car, found two of the three smoking fresh cigarettes in the car, and the officer began to ask how much weed was in the vehicle. Initially the driver said none, but admitted the group had “smoked a blunt earlier.”
Ultimately after the three were pulled out of the car and the vehicle was searched, officers found just over an ounce of marijuana, along with four joints that Robinson was hiding on her during the stop and their subsequent arrest. Police also found a “smoking device,” scales, an additional bag near the driver’s seat and found additional bags within Robinson’s shoe.
The trio were all charged with possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of tools for the commission of a crime and possession with intent to distribute.
All three were later released from the Polk County Jail on $9,000 bonds each.
Olden’s address was listed as from West Memphis, Arkansas, while Robinson and Vaughn both hailed from Memphis, Tennessee addresses.
Robinson was reported to have told police that she received at least some of the marijuana in a bag labeled “Peach Cobbler” from a club the previous night in Atlanta.
The Polk County Drug Task Force also lent their assistance during the arrest.
