Mr. James Kenneth “Kenny” Vickers, Sr., age 83, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Sunday morning, June 4, 2023, at his residence.
Kenny was born in Macon, GA, on May 18, 1940, son of the late Virgil Vickers and Stella Mae Sammons Vickers. He had been in Rockmart since 1989, moving here from Lincolnton, GA.
Kenny was involved in the poultry industry for over 40 years and was plant manager at Tip Top Poultry for 15 years. He was a member of Second Baptist Church. Kenny was a veteran of the United States Air Force and enjoyed flying and skying diving. He also loved snow skiing, water skiing, and traveling, especially to the beach.
Kenny is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Denise Pope Vickers, whom he married April 1, 1983; five children, Kenny Vickers, Jr., Vicky (Jay) Ryles, Marty (Kevin) Hopkins, Teri (John) Seabolt, and Jeremy (Deborah) Harris. Twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Kenny will be held Saturday morning, June 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. David Warriner officiating. Eulogies will be provided by Hal Floyd and Phil Thomason. Closing prayer by Rev. Jason Slaughter. The Honor Guard of Brown-Wright Post 12 of the American Legion will provide military honors.
Kenny’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Friday evening, June 9, 2023, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will include Kyler Carter, Cole Hopkins, Evan Ryles, Josh Gowens, and Judson Gowens.
