Haralson County authorities are seeking help today in tracking down a shooting suspect who fled a Sunday night incident in the Buchanan area, per a release provided by the Sheriff’s Office this morning.

HCSO is asking the public to help track down William Virgil Harrell, 46, of Buchanan, who fled from the shooting on Lee Road sometime prior to 9:43 p.m. He was last seen driving a gray 2015 Toyota Tundra with license place RXS3860.

The white male suspect is wanted for Aggravated Assault after he shot and struck Jesse Greathouse, 44, of Resaca, during the Easter Sunday night incident. Greathouse was struck in the torso and transported by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for treatment.

Greathouse remains in critical condition as of this morning.

Deputies were sent out on Sunday night to the Lee Road address in Buchanan after a call came into 911 about a man being shot. They found Greathouse with a gunshot wound to his left torso and a scene in chaos, per a release from the Sheriff’s Office this morning.

After getting Greathouse ready for transport and getting control of the crime scene, deputies were able to figure out what happened and even secured the firearm used against Greathouse.

Investigators later learned that Harrell and Greathouse got into a “verbal and physical altercation,” and during their fight Harrell went back inside the Lee Road residence and came back out with a firearm and shot Greathouse.

“Harrell then struck the victim several times with the weapon, (and) he also struck (another) individual on the scene,” the release stated, before he fled ahead of the arrival of law enforcement.

“As the investigation continues to unfold, we will be able to release more information. We are out actively trying to find Harrell right now and we do consider him armed and dangerous,” statesd Sheriff Stacy Williams in this morning’s release. “I would like to thank all of the agencies that helped us last night into this morning, Haralson County E-911, Polk County Police, Cedartown Police, Georgia State Patrol, Buchanan Police, Bremen Police, Haralson County Fire Department and EMS. Please join me in praying for this victim and his family.”
