Golfers will be teeing off on Friday morning, May 7 at the Cherokee Golf and Country Club in Cedartown for the first-ever Doug Sanders Charity Classic tournament.
The new tournament is a replacement for the Ayers-Beck Celebrity Golf Tournament, an annual fundraiser for multiple causes across the county – including annual scholarships for Cedartown and Rockmart High Schools.
With the passing last year of Howard “Doc” Ayers, the tournament was re-branded and will be working to help the community in a variety of ways with money collected from sponsorships and fees.
The overall goal of the tournament is to ensure that a legacy continues with this year’s launch of the tournament: that Doug cared about people, and wanted to do all he can to help.
As the first annual charity classic kicks off, that’s the message that the Morris family is looking to share. The annual classic will aim to provide need-based scholarships to students in the Cedartown community with the opening event.

Golfers will tee off at 10 a.m., and an awards ceremony is set for after 3 p.m. The tournament is also hosting a silent auction during the event as well.
