Dock Elliott Gammage Sr.

Elliott Gammage, 76, met his Savior on July 27, surrounded by the love of his life, wife Lee Denney Gammage, and other family, following a long illness.

Elliott was born in Cedartown, Ga, to parents (deceased) Olin Gammage, Sr., founder of Olin Gammage Funeral Home, and (deceased) Doris Toney Gammage.

Growing up as witness to his father’s career, he and siblings Lynn (deceased), Phillip, and Mary Louise saw first-hand the power of service and compassion.

Elliott is survived by children, Hollin Gammage, Dock (Andra) Gammage Jr., Taylor Gammage, Jamie (Chad) Chandler,Sharon (Cory) Brooks, Lauren Rose and grandchildren Morgan (Michael) Rebula, Dakota (Jake) Holloway, Grayson (Morganne) Gammage, Chase Gammage, Macie Brooks, Hayden O’Weger, Ty Gammage, Elliott O’Weger, Parker Sopp, Denney Brooks, Anna Lee Brooks, Evelyn Brooks

Elliott – lovingly referred to as “Gammage” – always showed unwavering commitment to his Bride, Lee. They married December 9th, 1988. Over the next 35 years, they honored their vows with joy and dedication.

Their love grew as their families became one. Together, Lee and Elliott taught Sunday School, fed high school students at Rexall Grill weekly, and created a legacy of unity for generations to come. Throughout his final illness, Lee reciprocated the fierce love, cheerful companionship, and infinite commitment and care he always showed her.

Elliott leaves a legacy of generosity, both personal and larger than life. In his interactions with people, he sought to always serve cheerfully, generously, and without judgment. His generosity always went above and beyond.

He not only served as a mentor to young adults at the Gwinnett Youth Detention Center, but also threw them an annual Christmas Party. He distributed bibles and children’s books for the Head Start Program in Tennessee. He hosted a weekly men’s Bible Study for 13 years. This group put their faith into action by sponsoring a summer event in Peeks Park, First Thursdays, that provided families the opportunity to spend time together, listen to music, and share a meal.

As a grandfather, Elliott held one of his most proud titles: “D-Daddy”. He was always front row at his grandchildren’s events, welcoming them into his home, and reminding them that Jesus loves them.

As a lifelong fan of sports and talented athlete, Elliott made his mark in high school and college athletics. He was fortunate enough to be on the 1963 Cedartown High School State Championship Football Team and 1967 University of Tennessee National Championship Team. He showed even then his faith, earning the nickname “the Preacher” from his high school teammates.

Elliott Gammage never met a stranger, looked to include everyone in any gathering, and thrived on sharing stories and fellowship. When friends and family set out to uplift him in his illness, he still uplifted them through his unfailing cheerfulness and unconditional love for all God’s people. Every meal was the best he ever had, and every person he met was “just wonderful.”

As he liked to always say, “I’ll see ya in a minute.”
