The National Weather Service put Polk County and others surrounding in Northwest Georgia under a severe thunderstorm watch for the rest of the evening and into tonight.
The NWS began the alert at 6 p.m. and it continues until 10 p.m.
The alert also included a warning updated just a few minutes after as CodeRED alerts have begun to go out around the area.
Bartow, Chattooga, Carroll, Floyd, Gordon, Haralson and Paulding are also included in the alert.
Stormy weather is currently pushing into the area from Northeast Alabama and Southern Tennessee, according to radar from the NWS.
