Later on this month, Polk County’s longtime County Clerk will be transferring her duties over to her replacement and enjoy her retirement after more than four decades working for the local government.

Dawn Turner, who has served as County Clerk for the past 18 years, was celebrated for her long service Polk County during a surprise celebration held this past Tuesday, April 7 during the April regular session.

She wasn’t expecting her family to show up either for County Commission Chair Hal Floyd to read a proclamation, and for Commissioner Linda Liles to also share her thanks and present a gift on behalf of the Commission.

Turner spent more than 46 years serving the county – first as a clerk, then as a payroll clerk, and finally as County Clerk – before deciding to retire in the past months. Her final day will be on April 30, in time for the County Commission to turn over the role to the new clerk.

That role is being filled by Jamie Armstrong, who was approved for hire during the March 2021 meeting.
