A program meant to help people get over their addictions is starting up at Second Baptist Church of Cedartown next Thursday.

Second Baptist Pastor Justin Carter invites everyone seeking to bring peace to their lives and overcome their addictions to substances to join the group-based program on April 22 starting at 6:15 p.m. with a free meal, followed by the whole group holding a fellowship hour at 7 p.m., and small group sessions starting at 8 p.m. The program is open to anyone with hurts, habits, or hangups they need to resolve in their lives, and want to take a spiritual approach with other like-minded souls.

Work began to bring Celebrate Recovery to Second Baptist Church late in 2020 the need was recognized for a faith-based program that utilizes the same 12-steps of other recovery-based programs (like Alcoholic’s Anonymous) but more spiritually focused.

David Wright will be acting as the ministry leader for Celebrate Recovery in Cedartown. Prior to launch, leaders within the church went through training to be able to provide outreach to small groups during the evening. The church has been working with Mosaic Place in Cedartown as part of the effort to bring the program to Second Baptist Church.

The goal is to help expand the opportunities for people to get help following a year where addiction services are needed more than ever amid a growing mental health crisis across the country.

Additionally, the church will be providing free child care to those who want to participate but have no other means of having someone watch their children while they are in sessions.

The plan is to provide Celebrate Recovery evening sessions on a weekly basis at Second Baptist Church.

On April 1, the church invited members of the law enforcement community to come take part in a dinner in their honor ahead of the launch of the program next week.
