The Cedar Valley Arts Festival decided to start up the festival with a couple of hours of shopping for those interested in making a trip to Peek Park this evening in Cedartown, and will continue over the weekend rain or shine.

The 56th annual festival in Cedartown will be open for those wanting to check out and shop with vendors from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening. Organizers decided on Thursday to allow for the extra time this evening in case of showers and stormy weather on Saturday prevents some vendors from being able to participate.

It’s a soft opening before the 23rd annual 5K/10K Road Race begins at 8 a.m. officially kicks off the event. Racers will be able to participate unless lightning is detected or seen in the area prior to the start of the event.

Saturday’s event schedule might need to be called off for much of the entertainment portion of the day if stormy weather expected on Saturday morning forces organizers to forego music acts because of electrical equipment getting wet. However, Sunday’s slate of entertainment and events is still on, and the Arts Festival will continue rain or shine.

Here’s the full line-up for Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting.

The National Weather Service calls for a 90% chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm through the day, but Sunday’s forecast is mostly sunny and a high of 73 on the day.

Check back for any further announcements about changes to the Cedar Valley Arts Festival schedule on their Facebook page.
