The Polk County Police Department hosted two Blood Assurance buses on Tuesday to ensure that when it comes to the supply needed to help save lives, it’ll be there for dozens of people.

PCPD Officer Andy Anderson, who helped organize this drive alongside others in the past, said that some 25 donors came out despite rainy weather on Tuesday to give 41 pints of blood. By Blood Assurance’s estimation, that saved the lives of 123 people.

Joining officers during the event at the PCPD was Henderson’s wife Chrisy, who has been taking part in events and fundraisers following the death of her husband earlier in the month after a prolonged battle with COVID-19 and other problems caused by spending more than 50 days in ICU.

Organizing efforts for the blood drive were mostly due to Anderson and Blood Assurance, but additional help was supplied by fellow officers, firefighters and PCPD Chief Kenny Dodd.

Those who were unable to give blood in memory of Sgt. Henderson on Tuesday can check out Bloodassurance.org to search for other drives going on in the near future.
