Mr. Billy Rowell, age 80, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 19, 2023.
Billy was born in Rockmart on July 8, 1943, son of the late William Rowell and Margie Hulsey Rowell. He had lived the greater part of his life in Rockmart and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Billy retired from General Motors Corporation where he worked as a lineman.
He was a devoted member of the Second Baptist Church and was also a member of the Golden Age.
Billy loved to keep the church sign updated and was a proud dishwasher for the church and was legendary for his deviled eggs. He loved going fishing, being on a boat, going camping, cooking for Kidz For Christ, and woodworking. Billy cherished family get-togethers and playing cards with family and friends. He also enjoyed working the concession stand for Rockmart Yellow Jacket Football.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his grandmother, Leila Floyd, and many aunts and uncles.
Billy is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Caldwell Rowell, to whom he was married for over 50 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Rachel Rowell of Cumming, GA, and Casey and Stephanie Rowell of Marietta, GA; daughter, Jennifer Rowell of Rockmart; three grandchildren, Eric Rowell, Nicole Rowell, and Grayce Rowell; two step-grandchildren, Heidi and Grace Vanderboom; three great-grandchildren, Ben, Nathan, and Aiden Rowell. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, July 23, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church of Rockmart with Rev. David Warriner officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Billy’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home on Saturday evening, July 22, 2023, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Billy will lie in state at the church on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.
Pallbearers will include Billy Newby, Larry Holcomb, Kenny Dodd, Corey Lanier, Lex Rowell, and Doug Hartbarger.
