The Polk County Police Explorers 2094 is hoping that many of you want to see a local man or woman donning the uniform have to kiss a pig at the Polk County Fair.

At $1 per vote, it might be worth seeing one of the local agency’s finest have to step up in front of the crowd at the show arena at the Fairgrounds on the evening of Sept. 9 and give a smooch to a hog.

Officers were selected from Rockmart Police, Cedartown Police, the Sheriff’s Office, Polk County Police and the Polk School District Police to participate, and right now the tallies are growing toward the top spot in the Cedartown PD in 2023. But officers from agencies with the top tallies from each are also going to have put lips to snout during the Saturday event.

Right now, Officer Byars with Cedartown PD so far has 768 votes, with Sgt. Turner not far behind with 700 votes of his own. The closes to that is Officer Leatherwood, with 404 votes.

Officer Montgomery at Rockmart PD leads their department’s tally with 485 votes.

The lowest so far is Officer Loyd with the Polk County Police, who has 155 votes.

The tallies are being updated daily at the Explorers Facebook Page, so keep up with who might have to pucker up to a porker in less than two weeks.

Money raised by the votes will go toward the Police Explorers program and funding their activities.

Cpl. Naomi Quiroz – who is also in the list with only 215 votes with the Cedartown PD – organizes the Explorers program with the help of several other officers to help provide youth tools and knowledge for those who are interested in public safety as a career after they graduate high school.

Purchase tickets at one of the local police departments, or through any Explorer member or advisor.
