The chance to decide several races for the coming terms of office is on the horizon, and Polk County Voters are running out of days left to cast a ballot early for local races.

The second week of early voting got underway on Monday, and after figures were cool for the first week a bump in the numbers saw new ballots cast as the primary vote continues.

As of Monday, there were just shy of 370 votes in total cast between Cedartown and Rockmart precincts – as well as absentee ballots returned and accepted, but those figures increased as of close of business Monday to 594 ballots cast in total.

Cedartown’s precinct had 199 ballots cast as of the close of the first full week of early voting, and Rockmart had 140. The Board of Elections had sent out 171 absentee ballots as of last week.

The figures increased to 298 ballots cast as of close of business on Monday in Cedartown, and 249 in Rockmart. Only one new absentee ballot was issued, but another 17 came into the Board of Elections and were approved.

Those who are seeking an absentee ballot must request it by Friday for it to arrive in the mail and voters to return it back to the board in time for the May 21 primary date vote counting. Call the Board of Elections for more information at 770-749-2103.

Voters are deciding several races countywide, and a couple in Rockmart proper for the 2024 Primary – which is all under the GOP ballot.

The County Commission District 1 and 3 races are countywide, along with Surveyor and Coroner. Two school board races – the District 5 and 6 seats – are only contested for voters who live within those districts.
