Johnny Shane Estes

A Rockmart-area man was jailed over the weekend after a traffic stop on White River Road on early Saturday morning ended with officers discovering pills and other drugs during a search of his vehicle, according to reports.

Polk County Police got behind Johnny Shane Estes, 54, of a Rockmart-area address a quarter past midnight on Saturday, May 11, on Highway 113 in his Ford F-150 and found him driving slightly under the speed limit. They followed Estes until he turned on White River Road and kept behind him, ultimately stopping Estes after he crossed the middle lines on the road “several times” and failed to stop before the stop line at an intersection.

Reports stated that when the officer approached the truck, the smell of marijuana was coming from inside the truck cab and initially did not want to get out when police requested he get out so police could conduct a search due to the smell of potential narcotics within.

The officer who stopped him was only going to give him warnings, but after Rockmart Police arrived to help and a search was begun Estes told officers he had pills within the front seats of the truck he hid.

Police ultimately recovered several types of medications which included Adderall, Oxycodone, Oxycontin, Hydrocodone and Alprazolam. Officers also found a pipe with meth residue and a homemade pipe with marijuana inside the cab as well.

Estes was taken into custody without incident and taken onward to the Polk County Jail.

He remained in custody without bond set as of this posting. Charges included felonies for possession of methamphetamine, four counts of possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance and misdemeanor charges of drugs not in original container and possession and use of drug-related objects.
