Student’s are going to have an extra day at home this coming week as the Rockmart Yellow Jackets take part in the State Title game to close out the Class AA Playoffs this football season.

After Rockmart’s 34-24 win over Cook last Friday, Superintendent Dr. Katie Thomas announced on Sunday that school will not be in session in person as Rockmart fans and students travel to Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta for the game on December 12.

So instead, students will have a Learn-from-Home day that was originally scheduled to happen on December 15. Instead it’ll be bumped back to January 2, 2024.

The schedule change, per the release from Thomas, provides everyone the chance to “take part in a historical and prestigious event for Rockmart High School and Polk School District.”

Here’s the full letter (in English and Spanish) posted online on Sunday:

The championship game against Pierce County kicks off at 1 p.m. on December 12. The game will be televised along with the rest of the championship games on GPB.
