Storms are a-comin’ once again to Polk County, but there’s only a slight risk of severe weather as a flood watch begins this evening.

The latest watch being issued by forecasters in Peachtree City for the National Weather Service is set to begin at 7 p.m., and continue for 24 hours. Rainy weather is expected to increase this evening and through the day on Monday, and drop off over Monday night and leave behind clear skies on Tuesday with a drop in temperature to go with the front pushing through.

Polk County Emergency Management officials are keeping an eye on the forecast as a warm front moves into the area and meets up with a cold front to bring thunderstorm activity to the area.

There are concerns some of the storms could be strong across damaging winds and isolated tornadoes, and more than an inch of rain is likely overnight. An additional inch of rain could be possible on Monday as well.

“Our area is also under a slight risk of severe weather during the same timeframe,” EMA Director Bobby Dockery reported. “EMA will continue to monitor and provide further information if warranted.”

Clear skies are on the horizon after stormy weather pushes past. The NWS is calling for temperatures to drop overnight down to 37, with a high on Tuesday at 54. Temperatures will warm back up into the 60s through the rest of the weekend, but look for wet weather to come back overnight Friday and through the weekend, with cooler temps expected.
