The home owned by Terry Hennessee on Forrest Avenue is one of the several stops for those who participated in the 2023 Rockmart Tour of Homes for the holidays. Here’s the full history they provided for this year’s tour:

The original house was built in 1825 and later purchased by Seaborn Jones in 1852. Over the years, he made several updates to include adding extension onto the main house. His wife and children eventually passed away, and he moved to the Continental Hotel in downtown Rockmart.

Later, the home was sold to the Durham family in 1904. The Durham’s turned the property into a working dairy farm from 1904-1970. In 1970, the Davenports of Davenport Lumber bought the property, and made several additions and improvements to the homestead.

The land was subdivided into smaller lots, and houses were built on the property to sell to folks moving to town. Several Davenport generations remained on the land in the main homestead over 35 years until 2005. At that time, it was left vacant until 2018.

With the vacancy came deterioration of the house, and the main homestead was purchased by the Hennessee family in 2018 and they restored it to its former glory between 2018-2020. To this day, the Hennessee family resides in the Seaborn Jones house s their permanent residence.

This year’s Rockmart Tour of Homes organized by the Rotary Club of Polk County raised money for the Murphy-Harpst Children’s Center in Polk County.
