A Rockmart man was jailed and later charged with murder following a shooting in his home.
Quenten Eutsey, 30, died in an Atlanta-area hospital after he was airlifted from Rockmart not long after police found him shot on the front porch an East Elm Street home around noon on Friday, May 22.
Polk County Coroner Tony Brazier reported that Eutsey was pronounced dead at 6:44 p.m. on May 22 at Atlanta Medical Center following surgery and additional lifesaving attempts by medical personnel.
Rockmart Police Chief Randy Turner reported that Marshall Crews, 64, of 505 E. Elm St., Rockmart, was charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies. He is being held without bond in the Polk County Jail.
Turner explained that Eutsey was shot by Crews after the two got into an argument. The victim was asked to leave several times before Crews escalated the incident and shot him twice.
Crews left his home and went across the street to a convenience store to seek help by asking the clerk to call 911, then flagged down a Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy for aid as well.
He was taken into custody after the deputy found Eutsey on the front porch of the house severely injured by the gunshot wounds and called for immediate aid from Redmond EMS. Eutsey was airlifted from the Nathan Dean Sports Complex to Atlanta Medical Center for emergency treatment.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called into aid with processing the crime scene, and Brazier said that Eutsey’s body was transported to the crime lab for a forensic autopsy.
The incident marked the second murder of the year. The first was reported in Cedartown when Rekiesha Moore was shot and killed by her step-father, Michael Prater on March 31. Police reported that Prater first shot Moore in a premeditated act, then turned the gun on himself.
He later died of his wounds, police later reported in April.
