Jesse Castillo

A Rockmart man remains in the Polk County Jail in the February shooting death of another and is on his way toward trial after the Grand Jury decided to indict on charges presented to them in weeks past.

The grand jury in Polk County was empaneled to hear evidence and determined they would indict Jesse Castillo, 40, on five different counts in the shooting death of Michael Griffith in late February.

True bills came back for counts for malice murder, felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in the March 18 decision.

Castillo is alleged to have shot and killed Griffith with a .22 caliber handgun at 599 Clarkwood Road in the early morning hours of Saturday, February 27.

Police found Griffith shot several times in a ditch near his home and he was rushed to the hospital to be pronounced dead in the Polk Medical Center Emergency Room.

After fleeing from the scene, Castillo was later found by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, February 28 and has remained in jail since.

His bond was denied when he went before a judge for a bail hearing.
