John Darwin Jordan

A man faces multiple charges including aggravated assault after a Father’s Day spent drinking ended with him facing down officers holding a shotgun at first, but being tased and arrested by Polk County Police.

According to reports, John Darwin Jordan, 41, of a Cedartown-area address, was found on Monday morning, June 19, in a Mountain Home Road residence after he was surrounded by officers when they were called out to a house just down the road by victims who told police where he was located.

Police first saw Jordan come to the open door with what they believed was a shotgun, and after giving him multiple commands to come out when he darted back inside. Ultimately he came back out, stumbling and reported to be intoxicated.

While on the porch and as police approached, one officer first tried to hit Jordan with a taser. It failed, but the second shock took and Jordan went to the ground and was taken into custody.

Victims explained to police that they and Jordan had been enjoying Father’s Day with alcoholic beverages, and that early Monday morning he knocked on the door, came in and went to a bedroom where he argued and threatened one victim after believing they had taken a firearm.

He argued with a second victim, they struggled and Jordan was kicked out. He left, but not before firing a shot through the front door. One of the victim’s placed a couch in front of the door to blockade Jordan from getting back inside.

Officers got a search warrant after the incident and they confiscated the 12-gauge shotgun, a .22 caliber revolver, and a wooden breach air pistol.

Jordan remained in custody at the Polk County Jail with bond denied on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.

Those included cruelty to children in the first degree, elder abuse – exploit/inflict pain to/deprive essential services to disabled person, elder person or resident, home invasion, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by convicted felon or first offender, and possession of firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies.

Misdemeanor charges included obstructing law enforcement officers or discharging firearm while under influence of alcohol or drugs.
