Off-year vote for Mayor, two Council seats coming up in November

Qualifying is coming up at the Polk County Board of Elections this month, and those interested in running for the 2 council or Mayor’s seat that is open this go-round on the ballot for 2023 is coming up.

Those who live within Ward 2 or 5 can sign up to take part in the election coming up in November for non-partisan seats, as well as for Mayor.

Sherman Ross, who previously served as a council member, will be running for a second term as Mayor on the ballot in November. Marty Robinson in Ward 2 will be seeking a second term in office.

Rick Stone is expected to run as well. He looks to continue to represent Ward 5, and will look to continue into a fourth term in office.

The fees are $108 for each person to run on the city council. Candidates must live within the ward they are seeking to represent.

Those who want to run for Mayor must pay a fee of $144.

Qualifying begins on August 21 and continues through August 25 during regular business hours at the Board of Elections Office in the County Administration Office at 144 West Ave., Cedartown. Paperwork and fee are due by the end of business at 5 p.m. on Friday, August 25 for candidates to be considered for the ballot.

Election agreements were recently passed by the municipalities for the Board of Elections to conduct the election in the local precincts coming up in November.
