POLICE: Five teens charged in gun theft from vehicle on Stringer Road

Isaiah Sylvester Young

Teens were taken into custody in the early morning hours on Thursday following a report of a gun theft and a traffic stop that yielded the missing firearm in question, according to Polk County Police.

Polk County Police initially responded to a call in the middle of the night on Thursday, December 12 after a complaint of a car break-in came into 911, and dispatchers were able to get a description of a suspect and the vehicle they left in as officers were heading to investigate.

The arresting officer in the case spotted the car on his way to the residence on Stringer Road and pulled it over. Four juveniles and a 17-year-old were found inside the car, and all were pulled out of the car and put in handcuffs and the back of “multiple patrol vehicles.”

PCPD searched the car based on the odor of marijuana believed to be coming from inside the car and its suspected involvement in the firearm theft. The search yielded the 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun that matched the description of the one which was taken not long before.

The four juveniles were taken to the Polk County Police Department and later transferred into Department of Juvenile Justice custody and taken up to the Floyd County Youth Detention Center.

The lone “adult” charged in the incident was 17-year-old Isaiah Sylvester Young of a Cedartown-area address. He was charged with two felony counts of entering auto and a single count of theft by taking.

No bond information was immediately available as of this posting.
