Mrs. Nancy Hackney McLendon, age 79 of Cedartown, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.
She was born on April 10, 1944 in Cedartown. She was the daughter of the late Curtis and Florence Wray Hackney.
In 1985, Mrs. McLendon became the first female patrolman in Polk County, graduating second in her class. She was employed by the Polk County Police as a dispatcher and patrolman, and then she moved on to work for the Georgia State Patrol as a dispatcher. She retired from the Georgia State Patrol on September 30, 2010.
Mrs. McLendon loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook and if you left her house hungry, it was your own fault. If you asked her to serve her community or church, she gladly did so.
She enjoyed being outdoors working in her yard and flower beds.
Mrs. McLendon is survived by her husband of 36 years, James K. McLendon, Jr.; children, Paige DeWitt (Bob), Stacey Oliver, Kelly McLendon (Laura); Amy Lameka, and Teri Smith; sister, Shelia Rabun; brother, Stanley Hackney; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. McLendon is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Helen Hackney; brother, Kenneth N. Hackney; and inlaws, Kerlin and Theresa McLendon.
The funeral service for Mrs. McLendon will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at two o’clock in the afternoon in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Bower Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family of Mrs. McLendon will receive family and friends on Saturday, July 1, 2023 from twelve o’clock in the afternoon until the funeral service hour.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Bradley Oliver, Will McLendon, Alex Byers, Evan Lameka, Connor Snow, and Josh Kirkpatrick.
