Charles Jimmy “Cobby” Dawson

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Charles Jimmy Dawson “Cobby”. Cobby was 79 years of age. He was born on January 18, 1945 in Cedartown, Georgia. Cobby passed away on April 30, 2024 at home surrounded by his loved ones after an extended illness.

Despite a diagnosis of lung cancer in 2019, Cobby stayed strong and won the battle with it. He had a fighting spirit that kept him going till the end.

Cobby worked his entire life from a young boy running a paper route and delivering Coca-Colas to becoming a successful self-made business owner in his adult life. He enjoyed the convenient store business for over 35 years.

Cobby’s lifelong passion was loving Dot, his children, and going to the beach. Cobby had spend his entire life her from the age of 16, his goal everyday was to make her life the best. Cobby was the family “fixer”. Everyone knew they could on him.

Mr. Dawson is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy Ann Robinson Dawson; daughter, Laura (Baby) D.Watts (Jason); daughter-in-law, Teresa Moore Dawson; grandchildren, Kolby Dawson Watts, Rendi Leigh Dawson and Levi Dawson; grandson-in-heart-, McKinley Vaughn; granddaughter-in-law, Grace Sargent; great-grandchildren, Brileigh Elizabeth Biddy, Bailey Ann Biddy, and baby Becca Ann Watts (arriving in June); and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dawson is preceded in death by his parents, John Cobb Dawson and Gladys Blankenship Dawson; son, Jimmy Charles “Chuck” Dawson; son-in-heart, Randy Clyde Smith; and several sisters and brothers.

The funeral service for Mr. Charles Dawson will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at three o’clock in the afternoon in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Slaughter.

The family of Mr. Dawson will receive family and friends on Saturday, May 4, 2024 from six o’clock in the evening until eight o’clock in the evening the Gammage Funeral Home.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Kolby Watts, Levi Dawson, Byron Slaughter, BJ Slaughter, Tyler Slaughter, and Jaydon Slaughter. Honorary pallbearers will be, Jason Watts, Randall Atkins, Jimmy Cook, Eddie McElwee, Robbie Robinson, Joe Weeks, Charles Baldwin, and JA Allred.
