Mrs. Jackie S. Cook

Mrs. Jackie S. Cook, age 88, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2024.

Mrs. Cook was born on November 11, 1935, in Fort Payne, AL, daughter of the late Pearley M. Hester.  She spent her childhood in Fort Payne where she was educated in the Dekalb County School System and the high school that is now known as Fort Payne High School.  

Mrs. Cook fell in love with a young man named Raymond “Sonny” Cook, Jr.  Although he was serving in the United States Navy, she traveled by bus from Fort Payne to San Francisco, CA, and on January 16, 1954, they were married for 59 years until finally being separated by his passing on September 17, 2013.  

After many moves over the years, the family settled in Roswell, GA.  Mrs. Cook liked to travel, and loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.   She is remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a faithful Christian who was kind and generous.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Cook is preceded in death by her brother, Hoyt O. Hester, Jr.

Mrs. Cook is survived by her son, Jonathan R. “Jon” Cook of Rockmart; daughter, Jo A. Rehberg and her husband, Robert of Kingston, TN; two grandchildren, Abigail G. Rehberg of Knoxville, TN, and Daniel L. Rehberg of Kingston, TN.  Five nephews Clifford Cook, Steve Cook, and Tim Cook, all of Rockmart; Brandon Hester of Boaz, AL; Clay Hester of Alabaster, AL also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cook will be Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Purser, Rev. Larry Nichols, and Rev. William McClellan officiating.  Interment will follow in the New Prospect Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Jason Purser and Rev. Justin Childers offering final remarks.  Mrs. Cook will be carried to the church to lie in-state on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the service hour.

Pallbearers will include Clifford Cook, Dusty Cook, Brandon Hester, Clay Hester, Jim Howe, and Parker Howe.  Max Smith will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Mrs. Cook’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home on Friday evening, May 10, 2024, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
