Matthew Dean Dawkins, age 48, of Tunnel Hill, GA, passed away Tuesday morning, February 14, 2023, in an Atlanta hospital.
Matthew was born in Lima, OH, on April 29, 1974, son of Barbara Lasch Dawkins and the late William Dawkins.
He had lived the greater part of his life in Rockmart and Cartersville. Matthew was a graduate of Cartersville High School and a veteran of the United States Navy.
He was a millwright by trade and loved the outdoors. Matthew enjoyed a good golf game, would go fishing anytime he could, and also going kayaking with friends. He cherished spending time with his family.
In addition to his father, Matthew was preceded in death by a sister, Nikki Carlton.
Matthew is survived by two sons, Gavin Dawkins and Nathan Dawkins, both of Cartersville; mother, Barbara Carlton and her husband, Jeffrey, of Tunnel Hill; sister, Amy Olson and her husband, Tom, of Ringgold; nephews, Trenton and Abram Olson. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
In keeping with his wishes, Matthew will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at his residence, 4966 Dogwood Valley Road, Tunnel Hill, GA, 30755.
I lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Emory Heart & Vascular Center of Atlanta.
