When the big rolls of cotton start showing up in fields around Polk County, its a sign that cold weather is just right around the corner.
The cotton harvest is underway across Polk County, and local reader James Vines shared photos from the Collard Valley Road area of tractors busy out in the field getting the crop cut and rolled on Tuesday.
Farmers around the area have been busy bringing in their crops for harvest time – from the corn stalks coming down to the hay rolls being bunched together after a cut as the weather continues to remain seasonal and cool heading into the last days of the month of October.
What’s next for local farmers? Fallow fields for a few months until March returns and planting season, and hopefully good prices on their bumper crops across the county.
