The National Weather Service is calling for a Halloween chill to fall over Polk County, but there isn’t any scares involved. Just a change in the forecast.

Temperatures over the past several days have been seasonably warm for fall, but now the thermometer is going to drop fast in the coming days. A arctic front will be dipping down from Canada and across the Midwest will bring cold temperatures starting on tonight, after one more day of sunshine and warmth.

As cold weather moves in and the warm air rises, the chance for rain showers will increase but are unlikely to wash out Halloween fun. While today’s forecast gets Polk up to the upper 70s again, overnight temps are going down the mid 40s.

The meteorologists in Peachtree City call for a Trick or Treating forecast with some clouds and the afternoon temps out on Main Street in Cedartown and around downtown Rockmart up to 60, and will be dropping fast. The overnight low is 28 for All Hallows Eve.

It might be this was the last hurrah for warm weather for the season with the forecast ahead. Frost is likely several mornings this week to come with temps dipping by Thursday morning into the 20s, and one last round of temps in the low 70s and upper 60s heading into the weekend and coming week, and lows into the low 40s and upper 30s.

Parents are reminded that they should keep their favorite ghouls and goblins on Tuesday night layered up and warm when the chill hits the air. Do ensure to wear bright colors when walking along roadways in the dark going house to house for the safety of youth, and everyone should drive slow and with caution on Tuesday night in residential areas.
