This year’s special election for the Aragon City Council seat that has been open for a year means that a new addition will be able to take action with the rest of the members this evening.

Stephen Sanders, who won the special election for the remainder of the time for the City Council seat left open in fall 2022, was sworn in on Tuesday afternoon during the city’s municipal court by Judge Bobby Brooks.

Because the time remains on the seat left for the current term, Sanders is able to go ahead and begin his service on the Aragon City Council without having to wait until January, when a new term would begin for those who won elections earlier this month.

The council will now enjoy a quorum again with three members and acting Mayor Judd Fee. New terms for incumbent Donnie Canada and future council member Ed Streetman will begin in January, along with a full term for Mayor Fee.

Aragon City Council members meet at 6 p.m. for their work session and at 7 p.m. for a regular session every third Thursday of the month.
