The Aragon City Council saw new leadership take over on Thursday evening during their monthly session, and acting Mayor Judd Fee wants to keep the job after the time is up in December.
Fee told Polk Today over the weekend that he has a lot to do in the coming days and weeks as he adjusts to the new position he’s been placed after the resignation of former Mayor Debbie Pittman last Thursday.
Despite that, he plans to seek a full term in office during this year’s election.
The mayor’s seat was up this year for the November ballot for a term to start on January 1, 2024. He plans to qualify for the seat before the week is up.
“Right now this all hit me as of 2 p.m. yesterday,” Fee told Polk Today during a brief phone interview on Friday. “I’m still walking into a new situation.”
His first order of business however is to ensure the finances are in order.
“The budget is tight, so I’m focusing on that first,” he said.
Fee’s Council seat is now open for candidates who wish to qualify, along with that of Donnie Canada and former Council Member Daniel Johnson, who resigned in 2022. The seat was left open at the time to save money versus spending on a special election.
Check back for more as qualifying continues this week for the Aragon City Council and other municipal elections.
