Even with early voting included, Polk County hasn’t yet reached 1,000 ballot cast in the 2023 Election.

Elections Director Noah Beck reported that 422 ballots had been cast so far through the midway point in the day for all of Polk County’s precincts. Combining the early vote total, only 968 ballots have been cast in person with 26 absentee ballots mailed back in and accepted.

Lines were short on the western side of the county as the only ballot item for county residents involve the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax extension past 2026 to 2032.

The county is seeking $64 million split between the local governments to cover a variety of projects, equipment and vehicle requests among other categories.

Aragon and Rockmart are voting in local races – with three of four of the council seats up for grabs and the Mayor’s race in Aragon, and the Rockmart Mayor’s Race – to go along with the SPLOST vote as well in those precincts.

Polls remain open through 7 p.m. Ballots will be tallied at the Board of Elections Office in Cedartown afterward.
