Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” M. Osborne

Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” M. Osborne, age 95, of Cedartown, GA, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

Mrs. Osborne was born in Cedartown on February 1, 1928, daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin (Frank) Golden and Bana Mae Summerville Moore. She had lived in Rome, GA, from 1963 until 1973, before returning to the Fish Creek Community where she lived for 32 years.

Mrs. Osborne, along with her husband, James, was the owner-operator of Osborne Fabrics. She moved to Cedartown in 2004 and enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, reading, working word search puzzles and also loved to travel and laugh. Mrs. Osborne was a member of Shorter Avenue Baptist Church in Rome.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Osborne was preceded in death her husband, James Meril Osborne, on November 10, 2002, whom she married April 24, 1943. Also preceding her was her Daddy that raised her, George Moore, and a son, James Lamar Osborne.

Mrs. Osborne is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Phillip M. and Jane Osborne of Douglasville, GA; two daughters and son-in-law, Carol and David Garrett of Rome, and Jan Osborne of Cedartown; seven grandchildren, Joey Osborne, Jimmy Osborne, Jason Osborne, Shane Garrett, Vince Garrett, Russ Hanson, and Mitch Hanson. Several great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Osborne will be held Friday, November 10, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Stevie Waddell officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens with Rev. Jeremy Albright in charge of graveside rites.

Mrs. Osborne’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Friday from 12:00 noon until the service hour.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to The Gideons International Center, P.O. Box 97251, Washington, DC 20090.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Big Springs Village and Pruett Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Mrs. Osborne.
