Mr. Darrell Anthony Barnes Sr., age 79, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Saturday morning, April 15, 2023, at his residence.
A native and life-long resident of Rockmart and Polk County, Mr. Barnes was born on December 7, 1943, a son of the late John Jethru Barnes and Clara Josephine Drew Barnes.
He was a 1961 graduate of Rockmart High School and worked for over 45 years as a mechanic, retiring from Jim Ellis Volkswagen.
Mr. Barnes was a member and former deacon of Rockmart Church Of Christ and enjoyed spending time taking care of the church’s property. He loved following his children and grandchildren in all their activities.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Barnes, Johnny Barnes, and Jerry Barnes.
Mr. Barnes is survived by two sons, Tony (Jody) Barnes, and Jeff Barnes; six grandchildren, Tyler (Brittni) Barnes, Kyser (Jacob) Pritchett, Tayler Barnes, Baxter (Annie) Barnes, Brevin Barnes, and Barclay Barnes; three great-grandchildren, Kash Pritchett, Krew Pritchett, and Kennedy Barnes. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Barnes will be Monday afternoon, April 17, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Minister Josh Clevenger officiating. Eulogies will be provided by family members. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Barnes’ family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Sunday evening, April 16, 2023, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
