Mr. Daniel Earl “Danny” Drake, Sr., age 77, of Cedartown, GA, passed away Sunday evening, October 15, 2023.
Danny was born in Gulfport, MS, on January 26, 1946, son of the late Joseph Drake and Catherine Tucker Drake.
He lived his childhood in Centre, AL, moving to Atlanta in 1969. Danny had been a resident of Polk County since 1999 and was a member of Friendly Baptist Church.
He retired from Sonoco Paper Company where he worked in maintenance. Danny enjoyed working in his garage and was a collector of many things. He loved his tractors and lawnmowers along with his dog, Oscar.
In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by a daughter, Tabitha Johnson, and a brother, Tommy Laney.
Danny is survived by his wife, Jean Ingram Drake, whom he married February 2, 1993; five children, Danny Drake, Jr. of Canton, GA, Susan Renee Drake, of Rockmart, GA, Jonathan (Julia) Drake of Dallas, GA, Tony (Kay) Taylor, Woodstock, GA, and Scott (Shelia) of Woodstock; sister, Shelia Chandler (Ray Allen) of Centre. Sixteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Danny will be Wednesday afternoon, October 18, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Vines officiating. Mr. Justin NeSmith and Mr. Derrick Tilley will be presenting eulogies Interment will follow in Mountain View Park Cemetery in Marrietta, GA.
Danny’s family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 until the service hour at 1:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will include Joseph Drake, Blake Taylor, Austin Taylor, Justin NeSmith, Matt Duke, and Jesse Johnson.
