It was a conference room, but now its about to be a new bicycle shop in the heart of downtown Rockmart and right on the Silver Comet Trail.

The Rockmart Downtown Development Authority sought permission from the Rockmart City Council earlier this month to take over the conference room at the trailhead building, and now they have leased it out to Jason Douglas, who will in the coming weeks open up Enthuza Cycles in the space.

Rockmart DDA Director Ann Arnold said that Douglas is already working to get the space ready ahead of the September 15 start date located at 100 Church Street.

Douglas said the cycle shop will in the opening months be primarily focused on maintenance and repair work for cyclists in town or visitors on the Silver Comet Trail, but that he plans to offer rentals by no later than this spring for those who want to get back on a bike, but don’t yet want to pay full cost.

As the shop expands, he does plan to offer several brands of bikes for sale as well, but a majority of their work will be focused on repairs due to the size of the space.

Douglas is a resident of Taylorsville and has primarily focused on cars with his online-based aftermarket car brand Enthuza Cars, which focused on parts for Mazda cars. As his focus shifts, he wants to get into something new in which he already has a passion.

“I’m moving into something different, and this is always something I wanted to do,” Douglas said.

As the business grows, he also plans to manufacture bicycles. Custom fit to each rider, an Enthuza Cycle will be made by he and his friends when that portion of the business gets up and running.

Though he’s shooting for an opening day of September 15, that will be depend on whether he is able to complete the setup work in enough time.

Hours are expected to start at 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursdays, and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
